What motor truck cargo insurance is
Motor truck cargo insurance is an inland marine form for freight on a truck. The California Department of Insurance commercial insurance guide describes inland marine as property insurance for damage to business property while in transport, and for the liability exposure to property in the insured's care, custody, or control during transport. The same guide lists motor truck cargo insurance among common inland marine forms, next to trip transit and contractors' equipment floaters.
Insurance Code section 103 defines marine insurance to include cargoes, merchandise, and goods in connection with risks of transit or transportation, on land as well as on water. The Department says standard inland marine perils may include fire, theft, collision, and overturn of the transporting vehicle. A policy can be narrower. A shipper or broker requirement is a contract term. It is not a statement that every load is paid.
This file is not liability for injury to other people on the road. That sits on commercial trucking and commercial auto. The freight form is on cargo insurance.
